Jose’s Story
Jose and his family live in the lower part of the city, along the road that leads to the airport. In 2020, Honduras was hit by two devastating hurricanes back-to-back, Eta and Iota. Many families across the country lost everything. Not long after the storms, we met Jose and his family while visiting friends who were serving in this community. Their small makeshift home had been badly damaged, and most of their belongings were lost.

Even before the hurricanes, Jose had been trying to improve his family’s situation. As a factory worker, he applied for a loan to build a small house for his family. But every time he applied, the answer was no. The reason was not his work or his effort. It was where he lived. Jose’s land sits near the banks of the river in one of the poorest parts of the city. The land belongs to him, a small piece passed down from his grandmother. Still, banks refused to approve a loan because of the location.

After hearing Jose’s story, we began looking for a way to help. Teams started to come, and something beautiful began to happen. Neighbors from the community joined in to help with the construction. Little by little, working together, a house began to rise.

Through the generosity of donors and friends who believed in this project, Jose’s family received the first home built through our Build a Home program. Today, Jose and his family live in a safe and strong house. We pray that this home will continue to be a place filled with God’s presence for many years to come.
